If you are like most people out of a job, you are feeling desperate, sad, and even depressed. Chances are there is a reason you are unemployed. Our research shows that the majority of people get laid-off, fired, or can’t find a job because they are simply incompetent and lack awareness of their incompetence. The economy may be lousy, and you can blame it on politics. Your organization may be tanking and you can blame it on a recent merger or acquisition, or poor customer attrition. Or you can blame it on any factor really. How about employee engagement? Poor customer service? Competition in the marketplace? Lack of innovation? You name your poison.
But the fact remains, the reason why you were fired, the economy is in the toilet, and your company is performing so horribly is because of people like you. You are to blame. It really is your fault.
When are you going to realize your fault and get a jolt by learning how competent you really are? Competence is a set of knowledge, skills, and attributes that make you the perfect fit for a job. Most people who are fired have absolutely no idea of how they are perceived. They were never given the respect of their bosses, peers, or others in their company to give them the proper feedback to get better, and realize how lousy or sometimes great they really are.
During this Career Fishbowl you will begin by taking an assessment of your self-perceptions and gain insight from others who are closest to you. You will discuss these perceptions with people in class, and choose areas in which you need to become better. The design of the program is structured in a way that allows all participants to exercise their daily leadership and working patterns so as to influence others to gain perceptions on you. After the program, you will be re-assessed by your peers in the program to get a better view of you.
You will take this new data to new employers to give them a better sense of who you really are, your strengths, and best ways to work with you.
